Browsing recent additions

This help page explains UKAT's Browse recent additions page.

The recent additions page shows the most recent editing work which has taken place in the UKAT project. It lists preferred and non-preferred terms whose editing status is 'pending' or 'approved', and whose status has changed from 'candidate' within the last two weeks. This means that the page displays terms which have gone through the editing process in the past fortnight, and have either been incorporated into the thesaurus (approved terms), or are awaiting formal incorporation after a period of consultation (pending terms). Unlike candidate terms and rejected terms, terms which appear in the recent additions page will also appear in the main body of the thesaurus. You will therefore also find them in the Main thesaurus: browse by A-Z and the Main thesaurus: browse by hierarchy pages, alongside 'pending' and 'approved' terms whose status changed more than two weeks ago.

(1) To start browsing, select 'Recent additions' from the UKAT home page or the Thesaurus home page.

(2) Terms in the recent additions page are listed by the date when their status changed from 'candidate' to 'pending' or 'approved'. Selecting a date will lead you to a list of the terms whose status changed on that date. You can also browse all of the recent additions over the past two weeks.

(3) The preferred terms and non-preferred terms for each date are listed in alphabetical order. The box at the right-hand side of the page allows you to navigate alphabetically within the list for that date. The terms are divided into subgroups based on the first one or two letters of the term: e.g. 'Ac-Co', 'Co-Ir', 'Ir-Su', etc. Selecting a two-letter subgroup will take you to the start of the subgroup. Each two-letter subgroup, in turn, is broken down into further subgroups based on the first three or four letters of the term (four being the maximum). For example, selecting the two letter sub-group 'Ac-Co' would take you to the start of that subgroup, and open up links to further subgroups: 'Acc-Awa', 'Bab-Bon', 'Boo-Bui', etc.

The 'Next' and 'Prev' links allow you to move to the next and previous pages in the list of recent additions for that date, respectively. The figures at the top of the page indicate your position within the list: e.g. 'Displaying 1 - 20 of 639' means that there are 639 recent additions relating to that date, and you are looking at the first 20 terms.

(4) Each term links to its main display, which gives full details of the term (see the Main term display help page for further information). Non-preferred terms indicate the preferred term or terms which should be used: e.g. 'Young persons USE Youth'.

(5) To move to the list of recent additions for a different date, select another date from the row of dates at the top of the page. The 'last two weeks' link will display an alphabetical list of all the recent additions over the past fortnight.
